Write to Your MP

Contact your MP and ask them to put pressure on the UAE government to release Salim immediately!

Sending a letter

A personal letter sent to a Member of Parliament is a very effective method to help our father.  Your MP is required to respond and assist with whatever is in their capacity.

  • When MPs receive multiple letters on the same issue, they will pay more attention to it. If you have a large network, share your letter with others as a template.
  • No postage is required when you send a letter to an MP.
  • Keep a copy of the letter you send to refer back to it when you receive a response.
  • Follow up! Write back to the MP thanking them for their response, adding any reminders for their continued support.

Email your MP

An email is just as effective as a letter by post as Parliamentary staff handle both in the same way.

Dear [Honorable] MP [Name]

I am writing to request your urgent action in securing the freedom of Canadian citizen Salim Alaradi who was arbitrarily detained by the UAE since August 28, 2014.

I would like to express my concern over Mr. Alaradi’s continued imprisonment in the UAE and his quickly deteriorating physical and psychological health. Although you are likely aware of his situation, I need you to know how critical it is that the Canadian government intervene at the highest level to demand his immediate release.

According to human rights organizations Salim’s trial has multiple serious due process violations that make it highly unlikely that he will receive a fair trial.

I kindly request that you raise this matter with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Hon. Prime Minister to communicate my concern. It would also be helpful if you wrote to the UAE Ambassador to Canada calling on the UAE to immediately release Mr. Alaradi and reunite him with his family.

I would be grateful for a response with an update on this matter.

Sincerely,

(signature)
